Menard's vermiculite insulation cancerous?

So I'm trying to put together my first sfg. I would like to try to use Mel's mix and someone said you can find vermiculite in larger bags at Menards in the insulation dept. A couple of months ago, I checked and confirmed the availability. Tonight, I went to make my purchase, but noticed it had disclaimers about carcinogenic properties and if you swallowed it or had contact with skin, and so on... Since I'm using it for partly a veggie garden, that started to scare me. Is this safe? I know it's dusty and stuff like that, and I don't plan on eating, but I am afraid of my veggies obsorbing anything dangerous. PLUS another note I saw tonight was that it had 1% crystaline silica I think. Does this have any dangerous effects? BTW, I'm talking about the 3 cubic feet bags of vermiculite used for attic insulation. What's your thoughts?
