My experiment - Swiss Chard seeds

A few weeks ago I posted asking if anyone knew if I had ruined some seeds I had accidently left out. They were Swiss Chard seeds and they were completely soaked overnight during a rain storm. I had planted 1/2 the packet that day.

So, I decided to do an experiment. I left them in the house, in an open bowl. This way they dried completely. It was about 4 weeks after soaking that I planted them. I put them beside some of the same seeds, different pouch:)

They all came up wonderfully this weekend. I went to camp for Mem Day, and came back to beautiful Swiss Chard, and it is almost as tall as the ones I planted a month ago!!

So, no harm done, one more thing learned. I think I learn something new everyday I am out in my wonderful garden.

I had the same thing happen with carrot seeds. I had purchased seed tape and left it out last fall. After it dried, I put it back in the bag and this spring planted it. I got better than 50% germination.

Nice. I planted some carrot seeds a couple of weeks ago that my hubby found in his shop. They were dated like 10 years ago. They are just starting to sprout. We'll see;)

I think we sometimes underestimate Mother Nature!!
