If you were in any other climate I would say buy plants. You can likely start seeds right away and get them outside ASAP to harden off. I would suggest watering with fish emulsion every two weeks for a while to catch them up a bit. I'll be crossing my fingers you don't have too late a variety to make that work. Thanks sinfonian. I may put the seedlings into buckets that I can bring into the garage in the winter. I am considering purchasing some larger plants, trimming an offshoot and trying to root that. I just need to make sure DH does not use all of the root stimulator so I can get it off to a good start. Although NM is warm, I live in the mountains so we can get snow in October and then haev beautiful spells through Thanksgiving.

What varieties do you have seeds for? If you have determinates, that would be your best bet, they typically develop fruit a little earlier, but they set all their fruit and are done after about 2 weeks of harvest.

I have seeds for Viva Italia (paste tomato), Roma (paste), San Marzano (paste again), Brandywine, Early Girl, yellow pear, and Cherokee Purple. My Black Pearl plant survived.

I don't remember off the top of my head which are determinate and indeterminate, I will have to "determine" that in the morning when I can get to the seeds.
