Why would you kill them? They are males expelled for whatever reason. Killing something for no reason is a bad idea.

I've got a TON of ants following this latest deluge. I see them crawling on the leaves, but you know, red ants are everywhere, raised beds and inground. I don't think they're as much of a problem as cutworms/squashbugs/cucumber beetles. You don't hear much about them. Don't worry about all bugs, only the nasty ones.

Doesn't look like carpenter ants, but there are several varieties of them.

This is why I love forums like this. My knee-jerk reaction when I saw this ocean of ants was to grab a can of Raid.
But they're not damaging the crops, and feed on bugs that DO damage the crops. I need to start thinking like a gardener.

I just got an article from "Harvest To Table" about ant control. Basically they're not a problem unless you have a colony in your garden (which we may have). I've linked to the article for solutions if they get out of control.

They look like male soil or moisture ants. those ants eat moist wood and decaying matter.

I loathe them in my house, but love them in my garden. And yes, I have tons of ants in my beds, but haven't seen males like that outside my home. Late summer is when males come out here.
