Square Foot Gardening

New to SFG: Help with spacing of corn please

Hi all, I have the 'old book' I guess. Didn't realize there was a new book BUT I'm really wanting to do this. I have 1 4x4 square at this time and would like to plant it with corn. I like the 3 sisters idea but is there any way that I can plant cucumbers instead of squash?

Also, 1 corn, 2 corn or 4 corn per 1x1 sq...I'm about confused reading all the postings about spacings...

And if I plant the corn and beans (and hopefully cucumbers) throughout the 4x4 square, should I add trelis's or will the corn stalks be enough?

Please someone help as I was planting tonight once my husband got home (didn't realize until I did a search on SFG that I could plant more than 1 per sq...)

With 3 sisters, no trellis is needed. The beans will use the growing cornstalks and the cukes will shade the ground, conserving water.

the three sister is not for newbies since if do not know what you doing you end up with mess and poor harvest.Planting 3 sisters in 4x4 is not worth it.

I plant only 1/sq. ft. - as the yield is much better.
