Black Plastic

Hi All,

This is my first year for SFG. Quick question. Today I put black plastic down in the planned areas for zuchini and peppers, as they love very warm soil. My goal is to plant memorial day weekend weather providing. I'm wonder if when the time comes to plant, do I remove the plastic, or leave it be for the growing season with straw on top? Remove the plastic and replace it with straw?

Any advice is so appreciated.

Hi Kim -

If you plan to put down straw anyways, I would pull up the black plastic before putting anything on top of it.

Otherwise, when the season is over, you will be digging up anything placed on the black plastic to remove it.
