I thinkit was Mel who recommended burying the bottom third of the plant and removing any bottom stems that touch the ground to avoid soil-born problems. (I've read both books, but I've also done a lot of other research so be advised I may be mixing up my sources, lol!) As long as you are pinching suckers and keep lower stems off the ground, you should be fine.
