slow growth

I am a newbie in SFG and I have some plants that sprouted about a month ago. as soon as they were about 6 inches I started to notice that all the leaves are eaten by some unseen bug. all leaves have holes and the plants in general are turning lighter day by day. by no means they look like dying to me.
even the growth seems to be just the same :(
can anyone tell me whats going on? and if I can spray my plants with some homemade organic solution to stop and infestation
