Chantenay Carrots
I selected seeds for Chantenay Carrots (at the store) because the description indicated 5-6" long carrots which seemed perfect for the SFG depth.
First (small) batch of seeds went into the ground in mid-March and the carrots were harvested a few weeks ago in early July, a bit later than the stated 90 DTM.
I planted 16 to the square foot and found that many wound up not germinating and I had a harvest of about 5 carrots in the end.
A few weeks ago, I sowed a subsequent batch but this time, I planted about 49 to a square foot. Yes. I figured that the carrots did not get to more than about 1" in diameter and this spacing is about 1.5" per carrot all around ( 7 carrots x 7 carrots ).
Any thoughts on this? In any situation, Chantenay carrots seem to be perfect for the SFG depth without having to add an extra box to increase the depth.
