what to plant - newbie planning the season and other ?'s

I have 2 boxes that had spinach in them. The spinach is pretty much over now, and I"m wondering what else I can plant in there at this time of year? Any suggestions?

A couple other questions....

I built the trellis as suggested int he book, and I have a tomato plant. I has a few tomatoes set, and more flowers, but doenst seem very tall. How far up the trellis should it be going? What kind of shape?

I have basil and peppers that don't seem to be growing hardly at all. They are healthy enough looking, but not doing anything. Is it just not warm enough?

I'm in a very different zone, so my best suggestion is to try and find a planting schedule for your area. Your county extension office of the cooperative agricultural services for your state is a great place to start - try searching the web for your county, or call your local county extension office. Or you may be able to pick up a local gardening guide for free or just a few dollars at a local independent nursery.
