Middle TN fall garden, first time

newbgarden

So, I am building a new raised bed (well, all of them are new this year).

This bed is going to be a try at a fall garden. I was hoping to find transplants, since I'm not very confident on starting seeds, but I guess fall gardens aren't popular enough for them to carry young plants.

That decides it for me that I will indeed be direct sowing.

I will be filling this box with a mix of MG garden soil, a couple bags of humus, some peat, a couple bags of compost manure, and our very own yard dirt (this mix seem to work well, whereas the dirt mix we got from a garden center performed horribly). I also plan on mixing in a few small bags of vermiculite and a little 10-10-10 fertilizer to start it off.

I plan on planting beets, broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, lettuce, and cauliflower.

This will be my first attempt at a fall garden.

Any advice from experienced gardeners that you think I should know?

What's the best way to hand direct seed?
