leaving roots of plant in SFG over winter?

I had my first SFGs this year and it went really well. I pulled out the vines/roots of squash, cucumbers, and the roots of the tomatoes. However, the brussel sprout stalks were three inch diameter and when I did the final harvest I cut the stalks at their bases and left the roots in the bed. Also left some cauliflower and eggplant roots in place. Should I go back and dig these roots out, or is there benefit to leaving them in the bed over the winter and cleaning them out in spring?

Thanks! Rachel

It is actually better to leave them in place. The feeder roots will rot off the main stem and it will be easy to remove in the spring. The micor fungi will grow in the root system.

Thanks! I also posted this question in the soil forum and the folks there agreed!
