Proof of Husband's love -- raised bed garden

I have totally proof of my husband's love -- he built me my 1st raised bed garden -- and he isn't even a big fan of vegetables!

We recycled a co-workers old deck (they were getting rid of it because it WASN'T pressure treated). It is built on a slope and is quite high to accomodate my back -- 24-30" high by 4' W X 16' L. This will be perfect for my root crops.

The next bed will be only 16-24" high, but the same area. This will be for my tomatoes and upright plants.

Next to it will be a larger terraced area no more than 16" deep (on the slope). This will be for my potatoes and perennial veggies such as rhubarb, garlic, and herbs.

I'll be ordering the soil to put in them this week -- 3 yr old dairy feedlot. Well-composted, rich soil. I did a "jar test" and the levels of sand, clay, silt and organic matter were great! (This is exactly the type of soil my mom used for her fabulous gardens when we grew up).

Now all I have to do this winter is drool over seed catalogs!

Woohoo! Nothing's better than having a supportive husband who not only lets you have a garden, but builds it for you.

Mine is utterly patient with me as I find new places to expand and is actually going to let me build beds on wheels to move them around to catch the sun.

Now, if I can only get him to agree to trim the oak branches that are shading the garden....

Good for you! My wife shudders at the very mention of "garden", and I get no support whatsoever. It must be nice to have that kind of support.

Aren't husbands great? Mine isn't into gardening at all, but he lovingly sacrificed a full third of our yard (the sunniest part) for my garden. Helped me build and install the beds for it, too. Pretty sweet of him, especially realizing that only leaves about a 20'x50' patch of grass for a lawn!

You say he doesn't like veggies, but I bet he likes pie! You could save some space for strawberries and rhubarb as a thank you =)
