I would just say be careful with the trellis arrangement. I have had success growing snap peas next to tomatoes. But I had a problem growing cucumbers on the same trellis as tomatoes. The cucumber vine can really take up an entire trellis all by itself. What ends up happening is that the cucumber vine will try to grow on the tomatoes.

In your arrangement, I would be concerned that the squash and watermelons will compete with the tomatoes on the trellis.

Thanks weekendhomestead. That's exactly the type of knowledge and insight I was hoping to gain here. I'll maybe have to make another bed then. And / or...I do have a four foot high chain link fence about 12 ft long I could grow the cukes and squash on. What spacing / how many plants would you recommend for that? Thanks again for the advice.

I would say that the squash won't fit 2 in my experience and you need to keep your tomatoes trimmed to a main stem. Also, the small amount of beans and peas you have planned may not even be worth it. I had 7 sq ft of peas and never got enough for even one meal. I also have 15 sqft of beans and that seems ok for me and my 3 yr old. I'm interplanting bush beans with my melons this year to maximize space and yield.

JT; What you need is to find the Book Square Foot Gardening, or check out the website. You are off on spacing of most of your plants. I will not even attempt to mention witch ones. With that said I do not want to discureage you. Square foot is fun and You just need a little more research. Have fun
