2011 'Last Call' SFG Harvest

Posted by beacivil1 8a/8b border (My Page) on

Well, due to budget and time reasons, here is my "last call" for 2011. I picked the watermelon, cherry tomatoes, and habinero peppers the evening before our first hard frost the other night. Now, a few days later and my plants are toast, but everything is ripening up inside. Since I'm not doing a winter garden this year, I'll see you guys on the flip side in the spring.

I _still_ haven't had my last call for 2011 plantings. CRAZY warm winter here in TN. I've got broccoli and cabbage that survived a few 20 degree nights and are now thriving. The broccoli are putting forth multiple new heads. Even one of the lettuces has come back to life.

Wow- I'm soooo jealous! We've had warmer temps here in Texas since, but I ended up not doing a winter garden. If I had, I would have planted brocoli, spinach, ect. Oh well, spring is coming around the corner.....well, it's almost hear already as we are supposed to be in the mid-seventies by Wednesday. I guess it's time to start getting excited again!

The broccoli and cabbage just survived a 17 degree night, our coldest yet this year. Next winter I'm going to add some cold frames.
