Heh that is just 50 sweetcrisps:) Last count I have 142 BB plants. We like to make blueberry wine and for that and the frozen berries it takes a lot of plants. I don't push my plants hard and prune to 5-7 lbs per bush max. This year with the late cold I did not have to do any thinning as mother nature pruned probably 60% of the flowers for me.

I planted 10 unprotected blueberry bushes this spring and something has been occasionally shearing off the growing tips - not eating them, just snipping off anywhere from a few inches to a foot of cane with a clean diagonal cut and leaving the cut piece next to the plant. Likeliest candidates seem to be rabbits or deer, as I haven't seen any groundhogs this year. I don't know if this is going to harm the bushes' growth over the long term and if the critters will back off once the bushes are bigger, but it is distressing. ~emmers

What you are suggesting I have tried on other single stem plants, but was not successful. If it were possible to split the stem, or trunk down through the roots so each half would have some of the crown AND some roots you might do it, but I don't think it is possible with the plants you have. I also do not think any dressing or sealing material would help. Al

Here's the yogurt muffin recipe: Oven at 375 1 c. plain yogurt (not Greek) 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 c. butter 2 eggs 1 tsp vanilla 2 c flour 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1 c sugar 3/4 c something to mix in (fruit, choc chips, nuts, whatever) Preheat oven to 375 Grease muffin tin and set aside. In a bowl mix yogurt and baking soda. Set aside. In a large bowl mix flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. In another bowl, beat butter Add eggs one at a tie, then vanilla. Add to flour mix. Then add yogurt mix stirring just until combined. Stir in your mix in. Put in muffin tin and bake about 20 min or until done. Can also add topping such as 2 Tb chopped walnut, 2 Tb brown sugar, 1 tsp cinnamon mixed together. Some of my favorite combos: lemon poppy seed; apple cinnamon and walnut; blueberry; orange peel and cranberry; and of course mini choc chips.
