Thanks everyone for the advice! Here is more information: The shower is finished. The main wall is the American Olean 2 x 4 glass tile. (Its called charcoal - www.lowes.com/pd_355357-74035-DG7124BJHC1P_4294730930%2B4294965034 ) The other walls are the floor tile which is a 12x24 beige color. It doesn't have any pizazz but it looks fine. Originally I was going to have some of the blue mosaic be part of the shower but had the idea nixed by both the tile stores saleslady and my contractor as being to busy.... I will take more pictures tomorrow evening after the painters have finished and post. Again, my original idea was to have this mosaic "Majestic Ocean 1x1" really shine on the vanity wall...I still could have it on the vanity wall but it would only show 2 inches on the sides and lower edge. The top would have about 10 inches show since the light fixtures would be mounted above the mirrors.

Jamesk - I don't understand your hostility. It's as though you're saying that I'm stupid or foolish for not being able to make an overhead hood work in my kitchen. That's not really in keeping with the tone of this forum, which is generally empathetic and supportive. We may challenge one another intellectually, but not personally. Do you find something wrong with not wanting to have my back to my guests as I cook? Or with wanting to have a design that is ergonomically efficient and comfortable for me? And since the engineering modifications that would go into a reversible downdraft are trivial (i.e. making a faceplate and attachment to the activator that can be flipped) is there some reason why my making the suggestion disturbs you? Your second post also suggests that you didn't understand my previous descriptions, To make it as clear as possible for you, I only had one piece of wall, 8.5 feet long, onto which an overhead hood could have been vented. Had I done so and put a cooking surface under it, I don't think that I could have squeezed any sized fridge in there too, because there are windows on either side of that space, and our city requires a distance from a cooking surface to a window, even if there is a hood over the cooking surface. That means that the fridge would have either had to go less than a foot from the main sink, with no other landing space around it, or into the area where the pantry is now, cutting out 2/3 of the storage space there, again with no landing zone unless I cut into the pantry space further for a counter. Putting a cooktop in that location would have also made the distance from sink to cooktop around 9 feet, and from sink to fridge more like 18 feet unless the fridge were jammed directly next to the main sink. That's way too long for an efficient work triangle, and would have made it very difficult for 2 of us to share the space. Had I tried to put a prep sink in to the left of the cooktop, I'd have had to plumb an additional 20 feet of water lines and sewer spur, to gain a prep sink and about 18" of prepping space. Putting a prep sink in to the right would have pointless, and into the island would have been another 17 feet of plumbing, plus the opportunity to drip on the floor as I moved things from the prep sink to the cooktop. Those are the layout problems that I abbreviated as a "useless mess." Instead, I have a comfortable, roomy, elegant design that works beautifully for 2 cooks and gives me everything that I wanted other than that damn downdraft hood. If you are so attached to an overhead vent hood that you would give up all the rest of those advantages in order to have it, then by all means you should have it. I might not understand your decision, but I wouldn't fire sarcastic criticism at you for having made it.

I am probably not going to be posting many pics when asking questions any more because I find that too many people are only looking at the pictures, NOT reading the text, and thus their responses are either directly contrary to something I've said in the text (for instance "get rid of XYZ" or "the color of ABC is wrong" when I've already said in the accompanying that I love XYZ so it's not going anywhere or that the color of ABC is really more toward mauve when it shows up as puce in the picture) or have nothing at all to do with what I'm asking. I find that intensely frustrating. I have almost no pictures of my current house because it's still in "whatta dump" stage. No paint (walls need a TON of work), short on furniture, dreadfully designed kitchen that's a perpetual mess because there's nowhere to put things... and forget outside pictures, a few weeks ago we ripped out almost every trace of vegetation outside (and will not be replacing it until next year, probably fall '09 to get the end-of-season sales) due to a honeysuckle invasion that I swear was growing by feet per day and was starting to attack the porch. I'll happily post pictures of my previous house because I think I did a pretty decent job with it. We're not on Google Maps but we're kinda-sorta on Google Earth - but the best you can get is a fuzzy whitish blob in the midst of a bunch of other fuzzy whitish blobs on a fuzzy grayish stripe. No closeups. Our town is clearly not a high priority as far as Google is concerned! WRT security - we live in a somewhat iffy neighborhood so I am one HECK of a lot more worried about the people a dozen houses down the street breaking in looking for meth money than I am about someone trying to track me down via the Internet (I Googlebate every so often just to see what's out there re: me) from half a dozen states away. I've been email-stalked and -harassed a bunch of times in my 18 years online because of my outspoken ;-) opinions and my ISPs have always been helpful in dealing with it. However, I've had meet-ups with a whole slew of people I've met online over the years, twice flying nearly cross-country to do so, and it's been grand fun.

Only you can answer that question. Is it going to bug you for years if you don't fix it? Some people just like to know that things are perfect, regardless of whether the flaws are visible or not. My husband would have to fix the wall, I would be quite content to leave as is.
