Expanding and Collapsing Ads

I know that ads pay the bills, and that they have to try to get our attention, but this expansion and contraction is truly annoying. I open a post to view it and scroll down to see the recent responses. Then the ad expands pushing the text I'm trying to read right off the screen, and I have to scroll down more to see what I was looking at. Then, a short time later, after I get a few words read, the ad collapses. Now I have to scroll back up to get where I was. This is not fun.

Make the ads big or make them small, I don't care, but please stop them yo-yo-ing the text up and down.

I've asked about this also. There are discussions out there of people who think they have a virus because of these ads. Kind of sad.

Most members aren't bothered by or don't see any ads, moving or otherwise.

They are driving me up the wall too!! Still there, but sometimes they don't 'expand'. FYI, I had some seeds of your Petunias leftover from a couple of years back and decided to sow them this winter. I have lots of sprouts and they are looking just fine!! :O)

That is odd DtD...I did upgrade my firefox a few months ago, I don't know if that could be it. Claire..this is what I got when I click on the collapse button...a new window that said.. expanding the garage plan a tad and adding basement steps???

When you say basement steps from the garage, do you mean steps going down into the basement from inside the garage? If so, I will tell you my parents have just built a house like that. Seems to work fine, no problems, though they have not moved in yet. Personally, I don't like not having access to the basement from outside, but they wanted it this way. They hated the exterior steps they had previously (keeping the lower landing area clean of leaves and debris), and they felt they could back a vehicle into the garage right to the steps inside and then carry things directly down into the basement even during inclement weather. But I will note, they didn't really get a deep enough garage to pull a vehicle in normally with the basement steps taking up so much room. They've had to add a parking pad next to the side of the garage for the car they had intended to park in there, and they're using the remaining garage space for a workshop.

That's blatantly untrue. This site is free to users because of the ads, which is appreciated. Just not this type of ad.

A couple weeks ago it was for Target. This week I've seen it once (since I've usually scrolled down the page by the time it opens) and it was for Pepsi and Lay's chips.

I'm not complaining, just trying to offer constructive criticism to a site I love dearly. It's in everyone's best interest for the ads to be as effective as possible.

Since all of the forum pages take at least one scroll to start reading the thread titles, ads at the top of the page are the least effective on this particular site. The ads to the left are the only ones I usually see. Another option would be to lock the top in place with frames and have the rest of the page scroll under it. I'm sure a focus group would yield the same info, and probably already has, if anyone cares to research it. I'm no longer a rat in that race.

Most members aren't bothered by or don't see any ads, moving or otherwise.
Maybe I should have said that I am never bothered by any ads here and know that a 'lot' of other members are never bothered by them either.
