Why are so many posts showing up twice

...sometimes much later, after other posts have been added in the meantime? The first few times I figured it was something people were doing, hitting submit twice somehow, but it's happening for so long to way too many posts at such widely-spaced intervals, an hour or more later, to be something at the user end of things. Gremlins? Gnomes? Sprites?

Are you seeing a ''500'' error? I was getting a 500 error, clicked submit a few times and went away. Came back later and my reply had been posted many times.

That did happen to me yesterday for the first time - and you're right, it doubled my post. Maybe that's what's happened to others. Thanks!

Maybe I have been extraordinary lucky, but so far the people that have come to my house have been the nicest you would ever meet. I hope my luck continues. I had to deal with the flakes only on the phone. katclaws_mo - I haven't heard of a "Curb Alert". I have seen people list Free Items at such and such address on CL. The problem with that is people taking everything that was outside, like patio table & chairs and plants - anything not nailed down. Afterwards people post asking for those items back. I always wonder if they ever get them back. I wouldn't post my address on CL for everyone to see. I feel uncomfortable enough giving it out to strangers in emails and on the phone. No answered my question, 'Why not donate to a charity free items instead of having people come to your house and take them away?' Clare

I think there's a certain etiquette to any online board regarding old threads that posters have to learn, intuit or research, and that etiquette differs from board to board. I'm on a fitness forum where it's considered bad form to start a new thread on questions that have been asked and answered...people are STRONGLY encouraged to search, say, "Crossfit" instead of starting a "what exactly is Crossfit?" thread when there have been, oh, 100 threads on it over the past year which they would have seen if they'd done a simple search. At that board it's encouraged to revive the thread but put in the first line of your post - OLD THREAD ALERT - then ask your question or make your observation. On this board, the etiquette I picked up at the old GW forum was, pull up old posts on your own for research but post questions in a new thread if the old post is too old. Personally I would not pull up a thread from 2010 about Lacanche and revive that thread with a new question. Read the thread and any others Lacanche-related, then start one with "I've read a bunch of old threads but never got an answer to this question...." Just me.

So frustrating...really hate that Garden Web sold out.. I do understand that the objectives of Houzz are mainly to sell things and, possibly ideas. I wonder where the actual IT is located and who now somewhat handles it. I just tried to post again with no luck. I love the garden friends on this forum and will continue checking and commenting, but I have begun to believe that Houzz is not interested in the old Garden Web. I don't know if they expected more purchases made than are or just what, but it isn't logical to think a large company would not correct the posting problem in a year if they actually wanted to do so. Maybe they are wanting us to get frustrated, I know that I am not going to spend as much time in frustration as I did last year when the "wheels came off" . this is my preferred forum, but only because it is very like my original and the one I have been on so long, but there is another and I may do most of my posting there. kay

Yes, totally agree that Newhart was the best TV finale period. But it really only works well if you are familiar with both Newhart shows. MASH was memorable as well, think I saw that in reruns. Friends was good. Was disappointed in Seinfeld ending. Stuck with the Gilmore Girls but the first ending of the series was eh. The ending of the more recent 4 part update was better. Sadly with most of the more recent tv I tend to tune out prior to the last season or if I am still watching the show is cancelled without a true finale.

Ok, this one breaks that theory. This has got to be something at GW's end. Any theory how this could happen at the user end?

I've noticed a lot of the double posts come from someone using a portable device like an iPad.

well, forget my 'theory' of 'unckecking having follow-up replies' possibly being a part of the duplicate problem. I'm thinking too that a good bit of it might be via ipads and/or other touch screens and then the member is using the back up arrow/function or something.

That sounds plausible and certainly beyond my experience. Phones are for making calls and the touch screen on mine makes me want to (bleeped!) Ahhh to be young again and even imagine seeing web pages on a tiny thing like that. ROFL!!

When I see people scrolling up pages of 'stuff' via their phone, or ipad, it makes me dizzy. I'll sure not be getting any of those 'rolling screens at a touch' thingys anytime soon.

btw...your post from Fri, Jul 13, 12 at 16:32 came into my email instantly, yet my replies from Fri, Jul 13, 12 at 16:21 and
Fri, Jul 13, 12 at 16:22 have not arrived yet...sigh.

It's almost like the GW email system is dependent upon periodic human action, not automated...? Since implementing the new email notices of threads started by others, I've had responses show up instantly also, so that settles the issue of whether it's Yahoo or Hotmail (not) but no pattern seems to be apparent.

For sure! You post made Jul 14, 12 at 7:44 showed up in my Hotmail at 10:27...almost 3 hours later.

My post made above at Jul 14, 12 at 22:46 came through to Hotmail instantly.
hmmm....gremlins?

Here is something interesting...I've checked the box earlier to get the replies emailed to me, yet now the message below says, "Check here if you would like post replies emailed to you. blah, blah, blah."

Usually it tells to to click or something if you NO LONGER want email replies emailed to you. hmmmm......Well, I'll check the box again. I wonder if it did that because I am replying again so soon. Think?
