The downside to limbing up and shearing most Chams. and Junipers is that over time you have created for yourself a butt ugly conifer. Along with that means getting out the shears twice a year to maintain appropriate shape. Looking at this one your looking at an all day shearing job unless you fall off the ladder. Hopefully not. Alternating the natural appearance of something to keep it around in an unnatural state is a waste of time. Cone headed conifers belong in the recyle/compost pile. .There are exceptions and Mike choose the right way to do it. This conifer,after a remake, has character and to the novice could pass as an untouched specimen. Sorry...been there and done that. Everyone I tried to improve on are long gone. Mother nature always has the best plan and first and foremost that means letting them grow in their natural state. Davesconifers

Hi jean There not all in 3ft square containers - only my apricot tree is in that size. I suspect it's a watering issue too. I think too much...recently. I'd like to know if it will spread to other plants, if I can stop it somehow, if I need to remove the damaged leaves which in fact I've done before only to have it come back again. This particular tree (I have no idea as to what it is...and when the officer from the parks dept came to check for beetles, he said he thought it was a laurel but wasn't sure) is about 8 ft tall counting the 18" high barrel it's in...which has a 29" diameter. It dries out quickly so I know it needs to be transplanted. It's been in this container for about a year. It grew wild on my roof a couple of years ago and I put it in this barrel last season. It needs to be transplanted, but if it's going to be problematic, I might get rid of it instead. Should I post a picture of the whole tree?

This will give you a little bit of an idea of what I am dealing with (we have about 3 acres... nothing is finished... and I have no idea of where to start... other than we need to level the yards to have a good base to start with lol... we have alot of pasture around the house. Alot of rocks, and unlevel hills (which is where alot of the irises are growing (It was a bit bright outside and so these pics aren't very good ss) These are on the edge of the cow pasture, between trees, along the gravel driveway. You can't see this very well... but there are patches of irises all the way along this "cliff" to those tires (and more behind me lol) you can see some flecks of purple irises darn overcast, but bright light lol... this is a hillside that goes up to my vegetable garden area... the dark spots are flowers This is that same hillside looking down these are in the middle of the path that is driven on with 4 wheelers right above that hill near my vegetable garden old garden stakes, next to my raised straw bale garden beds.... these weren't up when I made the beds last summer (they just keep popping up all over!` poppies in a field irises in the middle of a drive! the wider light green are little iris shoots... in an area just outside of the fenched yard for all intensive purposes, a side yard (it's really dry lol... need to plant grass, but need to level it all first)

Hi Ken, thanks for your input. I'm a beginning hobby-hybridizer, and intend to register some of my new ones so it's helpful to know the cultivar name. AIS actually pretty much requires it. The majority of my collection are named cultivars. It's helpful to have the pedigree so that I can look back into the lines to see what patterns, colors, etc. appear in the lineages of the parent cultivars. I'd like to use the "unidentified" peach iris in breeding, so I'm anxious to know who she is. I've had her for many years. She's an outstanding iris, very sturdy and tough, and prolific. She pretty much shrugs off everything that's been thrown at her and comes out looking great. I had a cluster planted in another section of my gardens only for a careless grounds crew to hit things with a "wild" spray of Round-Up. I lost several good irises in that event, but that BIG peach one survived... damaged, flowers toasted for the season... but bloomed like a crazy plant the following spring, and just keeps on going. The "white" is just a trick of the light. This iris is actually a self peach... peach standards, peach falls, peach style arms and style crest. All peach, except for the golden-tan shading and veining on the hafts. This one is my new arrival for 2021. "Her" pollen parent is 'Surf Lady' and her pod parent is 'Chasing Rainbows'.
