What has happened to gardenweb.com?

This site used to be *the* model for online forums, but now it is the testing place for all sorts of annoying advertisements and distractions.

Spike, we miss you.

Ads pay for the site so you can see why they are there. They shouldn't be so intrusive that you can't enjoy the site. When they are they can be avoided. Read this thread from the computer help forum.

I for one am glad the site is now Free unlike when Spiko had it and there was a fee.

Bob is right...there are numerous fixes for avoiding the ads. I am never bothered by them, as the folks at Computer Help, have helped me so much with the 'fixes' to that problem, as well as numerous other computer related problems.

Thank you, Rob, I went to the Add Block site and found several browsers to choose. I am on a Mac. Should I use IE and Google? Here is the main download page for adblock plus there you will see the different icons for the various browsers like firefox, chrome, opera etc. Just click the one for the browser you want to download for. this one should be chrome. Adblock Plus here are various adblock features that can be added Adblock Plus - Features to add the easylist to any of the browsers this link has the instructions just scroll down to: In Google Chrome for adding the filter lists in chrome That site covers all the various browsers and the relevant instructions.

brendan the Remove It Permanently extension for firefox will get rid of them. Install it then right click on what you want to eliminate and click on RIP advanced and set it to remove from domain then right click on it again and click on 'remove this permanently' and its gone. You only have to set remove from domain once unless you want to change it.

I have a rant about catalogs - we get lots and lots. And most of them come with no dates on the front. Months later when I'm trying to weed some of them out, I have no idea how old they are. Most of the time, when I get a new catalog I look for the one I already have for that company and throw the old one out. Cabela's is particularly bad about this. I think they publish a catalog weekly: one for men's outerwear, one for fishing, one for women's clothing, one for waterfowl hunting, one superclearance, one for archery, etc. etc. They could lower their prices if they would quit printing so many catalogs!

This site is almost UNUSABLE now. It's really sad and pathetic. I got highjacked 6 times tonight alone from ads that spill over on top of links to going back to the currently viewed forums. "Ad whores" would be my words for it. Sad and pathetic. This site get worse every day.....A damn shame IMHO.

Any one who accepts this crap is an idiot in my opinion.

After I followed the suggestion to use the Firefox browser that pretty much took care of it. Haven't had anything pop up here in a long time, not often enough for me to remember anyway.
