end of season daylillys

I have a large area of daylilys growing on the front of my property for many years. When their season is over, around now in August, the area looks terrible. They are in partial shade. I'm wondering if anyone else has that problem and how do they make that area look decent until winter. There has to be about 200 of them and they are fairly close to each other. Should I try and plant something with them that will bloom pass the August time period? I was reading about evergreen daylilys (which I'm sure these are not), would these last until winter? Any suggestions are appreciated.
