Hi Countrycarolyn, hmmm...it really depends upon what you are sending bare root, and where you are located (state) and where the other member is (state), and what time of year it is, and what maybe members prefer and agree to. That is one reason why I always encourage members to put their state location in the one box provided for the garden zone. See, I am zone 5/6 S IN I suggest you ask on the Conversation side of the forum, and there will hopefully be several who will see it and give you their take on things. The link to (off topic) Conversations is found just above the list of threads here on page one of the Seed Exchange. I think that would be the best place to be seen, as Conversations on the Plant Exchange doesn't seem to get as much traffic. Sue...resident busy body

Thanks both of you. There are at least 3 interesting and good sounding theories I've read when google searching on why they flutter: 1. Helps reduce and dissipate strong wind thru the tree canopy in high winds Link (8th paragraph down) 2. Helps get sunlight evenly in to the canopy so all leaves can photosynthesize well. Link (click Quaking Aspen) 3 Helps Co2 exchange, but shown by these links, it may or may not Link Link I might try to set up an experiment sometime to see if fixed poplar leaves have more drag in the wind than fluttering ones. This might prove fluttering leaves reduce drag for the tree in high wind gust events. If anybody has more information or studies on Poplar leaf flutter function(s) post it, it would be great to read more about this. Thanks.

I would vote to have seed exchanges and sase's on this forum. I got some rare seeds that I wanted (thanks John) by browsing this forum. I was not looking for them and would not have thought to look on the exchanges forum (especially since I did not have anything worthwhile to exchange). The trouble with the exchanges forum is that the peppers get lost among the flowers etc. If we are going to be forced to use the exchange forum might I suggest that the word 'pepper' be included in the subject line. This is superfulous on this forum but enables you to bring up the peppers using the search function if they are on the other forum. Brien

Yes, I know the post was really detailed. I waffled about whether to put that much detail in it, but felt like I'd covered the basic ideas/options myself but kept running into obstacles that I tried to outline in the post so folks maybe would understand the problems with most of the options I thought of. It was not my intent to make anyone's head explode. Thanks to all of you for your ideas, however. I do appreciate it. Igloochic, I hadn't really thought of hanging glass...that's an interesting option. I do like the Asian look of shoji which might work, maybe in a shutter? Marti8a, I love that pic...they were my first choice, but don't know if I can get a 9' span. Think I will have to visit a decor store that sells shades and see what they say. Thanks, again
