What's the best way to move rose bushes from So Cal to Albuquerqu

Hi, new member here! I'll be moving around February 1st from Southern California to Albuquerque. I'd like to bring some of my rose bushes with me. In preparation, I pruned them back today and removed all the leaves. Do you think it would be best to put them in pots with dirt? Or maybe just dig them up and pack them like bare root roses with peat moss? Should I plant them as soon as I get to ABQ, or wait till spring? What about watering? I'm looking forward to a whole new way of gardening!

There are agricultural checkpoints at the California/Arizona border. I don't think they will let you take any plants through. You can check with the Arizona Dept. of Agriculture. When I moved from California to NM the moving company refused to take any plants in the moving van because of the agricultural restrictions at the border. |

| Welcome to Albuquerque!!! Not totally sure about the technical part of your question - but I would plant them asap here since it gets hot fast in the spring and most woody plants do best planted in Fall/Winter. There are not any restrictions on bringing plants into NM, so if you pick an indirect way, you should be fine (NV-UT-NM should work). Good Luck and Welcome..... John R in ABQ |
