At about 3 X 40 feet, I'm thinking I could have several different varieties. I'm slogging through about 65 entries listed for deep shade in the "Western Gardner", but would like to hear from someone who has experienced this.

I'm avoiding ferns (don't like them), anything toxic or poison (two dogs and a cat) and anything that says invasive.
