Plants for No Sunlight in San Diego

Posted by sandiego.gardner Sunset 23, USDA 10b (My Page) on

This area along the North wall of my home might get one hour of sun in midsummer, but otherwise gets none.

At about 3 X 40 feet, I'm thinking I could have several different varieties. I'm slogging through about 65 entries listed for deep shade in the "Western Gardner", but would like to hear from someone who has experienced this.

I'm avoiding ferns (don't like them), anything toxic or poison (two dogs and a cat) and anything that says invasive.
Here's a photo in late afternoon.
