Invading Holly?

Posted by gardenergwen Texas - Zone 8 (My Page) on

We just moved to Central Texas - Zone 8 - this fall. The home we bought has little sapplings that look like holly plants all over the yard. I tried to pull a few out, but the roots extend deep into the ground and often break off.

The reason I say it looks like a holly is that the leaf has a traditional holly shape with a sharpness at the end of the leaves.

I'm not certain what this is or how to bannish it from the yard without damaging turf or other plantings. Any ideas?

Thanks a bunch,
GardeningGwen in Texas

RE: Invading Holly?

It sounds like LiveOak root sprouts.
A picture would confirm this.
