Uggh...overwhelmed newbie with BIG Q!

So, I ordered seeds from Blurpee which included onions. Well, dumb newbie me didn't realize that they would be sending onion plants (bulbs) and not seeds (I know, so dumb). Well, they arrived today and it says to plant immediately or, at the latest, 3 weeks from now. I don't even have my garden built and we weren't planning on planting anything until April. Not to mention, I thought I was getting seeds (DUH) so I could save them. I thought "onion season" was kind of around Sept/Oct.

I guess my question is, what do I do with these bulbs? Do I need to plant them immediately? Should I get some cheap plastic pots to put them in until I can transfer them to the actual garden? Any help would be much appreciated!

Get a sturdy cardboard box, fill with about 4 inches of moist potting soil, plant them 2 inches apart and place them in sunny location making sure the soil is moist and they don't freeze. You can plant them out at the appropriate time.
