Mandevilla and Camellis

Will Alice Du Pont Mandevilles do well in Phx. I can not bring them inside in the winter. The last one I had turned brown and the leaves crumpled in the winter, will it turn green in the spring? Should I give up on the plant? Is Camellia a good shrub to plant in Phoenix? Is it normal for these plants to die off in the winter and return in the spring...I dont wanna dig up my Mandevillas unless they truly ARE dead...we had a cold snap for a week or so and I didnt protect it. HELP ME

RE: Mandevilla and Camellis

I have had better luck with Camellias than Mandevilla. That is just me! They all went to plant heaven last summer due to lack of care on my part. Sorry, I am not much of an inspiration.

Camellias should be lush green during the winter here. The Genus is a rather large one. I assume some variation in their species may influence how well they may fare in our climate zone.

Mandevilla, mine loose all of their foliage then once the warmer weather begins so does their leaves. I grow it year around outdoors with mid day protection from our strong sun.
