HELP!!! With African Sumacs and a Camphor.

I'm in the high desert in California. Just bought 10, 15 gallon African Sumacs from a nursery. Kept them in the same place for one week between delivery and planting. Watered all in the same manner. Literally overnight, half of them seem to have died. Leaves are green but crunchy. The same thing happened with one of the 6 Camphor I purchased from the same place. The weather over the past few weeks has been typical of the desert. Any ideas?

How high are you ?? What were the lows ??

What about the limbs are they pliable and have internal moisture ? Sounds like a combination of transplant shock and wind ( if you had any ?? ) ... don't give up the ship ... maintain soil conditions and ride it out ... Summacs do sometimes drop leaves in response to sharp increases in temperatures at the end of Spring into summer ... out here we just went from 70 to 92 in a week ....

Palmdale,my birth place,is plant Hell. They committed suicide.The climate can go from 75 during the day to 30 at night.(NO moisture or cloud cover to hold heat stable.)We frequenlty have 40-60mph winds that are HOT! I have not tried Sumacs or Champhor. I've heard that Sumacs will live here.Don't be discouraged if 1/2 of all the plants(same kind!) die. Eventually you will find the hardy ones that will live. Plant sales are really good.I don't reccommend alot of chemical fertilizers. The ground is fertile,just hard and dry. Compost at least 6-8 inches down for anything.PJ

It happened to me with locust and orange jubilee.
Try "SUPERTHRIVE"...it kick right in and they came back to life. Follow directions on bottle.
