African Basil

We bought this house in North San Diego County about a year ago, and it featured a breathtaking African Basil on the patio. I never trimmed it back, and it got completely out of control. I recently cut it back - hard - and wonder if I've killed it. It was VERY woody, and it was just impossible to separate the dead from the new growth. I will be very sorry if it's dead, but the truth is best. Thanks!

May I make a suggestiion, cut out a piece with a knife, making sure you get some roots then plant in a pot, dampen the soil first before you plant it in the pot. It is a very invasive plant. But wonderful to have. Put it in the location where it is growing wild, and set pot up on raised cement blocks or bricks. It is a great ground cover, but will squeese out all over plants. Norma
