Is my Maple Tree dead?

We bought the house with this maple pretty hacked up. The yard really took off after the winter rains, but I noticed the other day that the maple doesn't look so hot. Have termites taken over?

We have an Emerald Queen maple tree on the northeast side of the house and live outside of Denver. Our tree leafs out fairly early--in fact earlier than we'd like since we frequently have snow in late April and even May. We've lost some branches over the years because it leafs out early and holds its leaves fairly late into the fall. Your tree looks like someone hacked it off and then suckers grew out of the trunk that was left. It definitely looks dead since your grass is green and shrubs are leafing and blooming. Even if it's not completely dead, it certainly isn't a healthy tree that will add beauty to your landscape. Cut it down and replace it with a new tree.
