| Can anyone please help me identify this flower? I have posted a photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/7932929@N06/
The flowers grow wild on a hillside in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The plant is about 1-2 feet high and the blue flowers have 5 petals and are approximately 1 inch in diameter. They have yellow centers and white stamens.
Thank you in advance if you can help! Have a great weekend!

Hi, I believe it is a Cup Flower. Follow this link and see what you think: http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Solanaceae/Nierembergia_violacea.html I love it. Found some growing wild in my yard. Very easily transplanted and it does bloom all year. K in ABQ

Thank you, K in ABQ! I checked closely and I don't think it's the same flower, but it's so similar that it's hard to know for sure! I really appreciate your reply -- thank you! Lindsey :)

LOL, I shoulda known that one, it's in my back yard and I know it's Blue Flax - just found a scarlet flax out there that looks amazing! I'm going to have to get some to go with my blue :) Apparently there's also a golden variety too! They grow great here, I think they might even work in a "hell strip" as they're kinda weed-like in their habits, but they sure look better than most of the weeds I've got around here, hehe.

ABQ Bob, yes, those flax are gorgeous. I didn't know they came in different colors. Do you know if you can get seeds, or are they sold as plants? Probably see you at the plant fest this weekend! Not that I'll know who you are, ha ha :) Lindsey :)

I ordered seed for the scarlet flax. I'm not sure if you can get them as plants. Some of the reading I've seen says they don't transplant well. I think I got my original blue-flax through a GW seed swap. :) The yellow/gold variety seems difficult to find commercially and it's latin name has recently changed too, making it more confusing. It -was- Linum rigidum, now it's Linum berlandieri Hook. var. berlandieri. Commonly called plains flax, prairie flax, yellow flax, or stiff-stemmed flax - and it seems to be the type used in flax seed oil and other "healthy" flax stuff, so maybe it can be bought at a health food source ??
