I need help turning a loft into a garden.

Hi, my name is Alice and I live in the southeast corner of Arizona. I have never done gardening before but I've always wanted to have a beautiful garden.
I have pigeons and doves and would like to make their loft into a small garden. The walls of the loft are made of chicken wire and on the aviary side there is not a solid roof; the roof there is also made of chicken wire. I want to cover the chicken wire with some type(s) of climbing plant(s), preferably with pretty flowers, but even the plant leaves making a thick wall would be wonderful.
I have one climbing (Tombstone) rose planted that has started growing and climbing, but other than that, I am starting from nothing.
My ultimate goal would be to make the whole loft look totally natural with natural looking perches and things.
Anyway, as I said, I'm a total newbie and need a lot of help! :) I want your ideas, tips, and instructions if you'd be willing to give them. Links for beginners would be wonderful too.
Thank you all so much!

Alice
