High Desert Help Needed

Posted by dockside (My Page) on

DH and I are housesitting for DD in the CA high desert . We want to do flower gardening in their planters but are clueless about what to plant. (We're from the Pacific NW.)

One area where we would be planting receives morning sun (it has a brick wall behind it). The other is a planter with the house behind it and is on the south side of the house. It also gets the morning sun.

Any suggestions for easy-to-grow flowers for these areas would be appreciated - plus intitial care (watering, fertilizing, etc.). We'll be here another 6 days.

Geraniums are always an easy option for planters, they can tolerate the sun and shade and can also tolerate neglect. You can throw in some trailing bacopa, or even some million bells, I also like lobelia for part shade areas and it adds a great blue color. Good luck and have a great stay! Cheers, Una
