Any Plants w Dark Foliage *Not Green* & Desert Adapted/Low Water?

Hi,

Does anyone know of a desert adapted, or very low water usage plant with dark foliage that is *not* green?

Pretty much *any* type of plant would do - spiky / ornamental grasses / bushy / lush leafy / etc!

We really like burgundy / red /purple / brown-bronze foliage and those colors would offset the rest of the plantings beautifully. We have some Red Flax, which would be perfect in every way, except that it grows to 8'. Three or four feet high at most, would be ideal. If they were fairly low maintenance that would be nice as well.

This is seriously becoming a "Holy Grail" type quest!

If there were only a website where you could type in your weather conditions, sun, water, height and color requirements!!!

The area we need to plant this dark purple or burgundy or red foliage plant:

-- The Desert! Zone 9 - Tucson, AZ
-- Partial to Full Sun
-- Low Water Usage
-- 3 - 4 feet high at most
-- Low Maintenance would be nice

Please help if you can! Thank you :)

Last year I tried out a new plant called Rasberrie Fuzzies, Acalypha monostachya that I just love. It has an overall bronzy red look to it and it handled our heat and sparse watering fine. It is small, basically like ground cover size and it goes away in the winter but popped back up this spring and is blooming away right now.

My only problem is where can I find more of these great plants!

I have the bronze NZ Flax & I think it only grows to 4ft?

I don't know much about it, other than I think it's Australian & requires low water, but Kangaroo Paw. I scouted around for plants I liked & then looked at their tendencies & requirements in the Sunset gardeing book.

I'm just up the 10 in Phoenix. :)
