 o
how close on melons?

I know this is an old worn out question but, My wife brought home watermelon, cucumbers, squash and cantlelope(typo, sorry). I did cantlelope last year and was great. I will plant the other melons away from that spot. How close together can the new melons be? I think I read somewhere(maybe here)last year, that 1st season melons can grow close together. Thank You for any info on this. I've heard stories of cross polenation and so forth. Also have heard that some of it may be folklore, and only have to watch for it in 2nd year and on same area locations. So, I wanna do it right, and dont wanna go to too much work if I'm not planning on doing the same next year in reference to so many melons, just wanna do for wife this year,if Ya know what I mean. Scotty.

RE: how close on melons?

I grow watermelon and cantaloupes in the same area. I haven't had any cross pollination. I have had cross pollination on squash, producing some strange looking but edible squash. Good luck with your crop!
