Ground covers for hillside? So. CA

Hi.

I'm a n00b to this site.
Wife and I bought a single family home last summer - moved from a townhouse - and have been working through some major lawn and landscape issues all year.

Just recently, I had all the iceplant and tall grass plants removed from our hillside in the back yard. This is approx. 15' x 100', sprinkler system and drips installed, very steep...barly climbable...maybe 30-40 deg. or so. We live in a very dry climate at about 1500' elevation.

My wife is allergic to bee stings...and so could be our 2 year old son. The ice plant blooms all summer and the hill was swarming with bees.

We are looking for a good, fast growing, ground cover that is water-wise and does not bloom. We're open to layering or any other method to make this attractive as well.

This is a full-sun hill and summer temps reach 105+F. Lows rarely ever hit 40 all year.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

Chris,

May I suggest you look into Myoporum parvifolium. This plant has a very short bloom cycle and I haven't noticed any bees on ours. It is quite spectacular looking as a ground cover and I think it would look fantastic on your slope and be very drought tolerent and easy care to boot.

Good luck, Maria
