They require an average amount of water. Watering deeply once a week should do it. When the tree is well-established you could go to every 2 weeks. Also a monthly deep watering thru the winter and your Smoke tree should be awesome.

That's the same schedule I've used for my new trees - I'm in Bosque Farms - although if they are really small with a small root ball I watered more than once a week during the first summer - just checked the rootball to see if it was moist or not and never let the rootball dry out completely. I do mulch my trees pretty heavily and have a pretty good sized well around them.
