What to plant under coneflower
| | |

| I would like to plant a groundcover under my coneflowers. Does anyone have a suggestion for a compatible plant. I'm looking for something that is xeric and will tolerate being walked on once or twice a week.
Thanks |

| Hmmm - my coneflowers get so thick I can't under plant them. In a walking area I would try the creeping thymes or roman chamomile. For very low/no trafic areas possibly horehound, alyssum, forget-me-nots, sedums, or creeping rosemary too (?). I tend to mix other tall or vining plants with my coneflowers; coreopsis, cosmos, morning glory/moon flower, annual poppies, and passion flowers. |

| Purple verbena - although it, like much of the others won't care too much for foot traffic.... maybe you could put some stepping stones down? HTH

| Ditto on suggesting the stones. There's not too much here that can take both the heat and the walking. |
