it's called "Decomposed Granite" or "crushed granite.

Decomposed and crushed granite is very different. The decomposed granite is better for growing stuff since it has started to breakdown.The minerals are more available to the plants. It is a orange brown here in texas. I guess the color would change according to the type of granite in the area. We have red granite. Crushed granite makes a good rock mulch.

Roofing supply places have that granite. I got some for Al's gritty mix for my containers (container forum advice), at a local contractor's supply place here in Coachella Valley.
