Anybody in the Albuquerque area using alfalfa feed around their plants, and if so, does it seem to help?

Do you mean the alfalfa pellets that you feed to rabbits or actual fertilizer?

RE: Alfalfa mulch

I use alfalfa meal (pure with no sugar and such added) that I purchase from a local feed company on my roses. I do believe it helps them, but I couldn't tell you why. I mulch with it before I put down my regular mulch. I've put it around everything else too, while I was at it and everything is growing nicely.

Alfalfa meal, like the food pellets, is very high in organic nitrogen. The roses, need the nitrogen to help keep them green and healthy.

Just a warning, if you use anything with live seeds in it, you will have alfalfa as a persistent weed forever and ever.
