spending 4 mos. in NM starting August 15--gardening?

I'll be near Gallup for the fall college term. There's a small garden in the school compound where we'll be living. When I visited last November, the plot was bare, and I'm wondering if there's something I can do in mid-August to get a crop of something. At the very least I'll get a compost pile and soil improvement going. Any advice or ideas?

Any cool season vegs like pea, leaf lettuce, broccoli, and short season tomatoes transplant. The tomatoes will have to be started 6-8 wks before transplanting. You will have to buy the seeds on line. You will have about 8 weeks of unprotected growing.

Thanks Petzold. It's what I suspected. I'll see what I can do!
