What to plant around an Agave americana medio-picta alba?

| I am about to plant an Agave americana medio-picta alba in the midst of a tropical bed. In order to avoid overwatering the plant, I am going to mound up some sandy soil on top of a layer of gravel. The plant is small, but the mound will be large to leave space for growth. What small plants/succulents could I place around it in order to fill in the mound?
Thanks

Try some of the pink or burgundy echevarias. If you plant them in masses it would be dramatic around the agave. Another choice would be a large mass of the blue spiked succulent ( I can't remember the name, but they are a real strong bluish gray) Maybe someone else will know of the name? |
