Mystery plant from Santa Fe

Posted by carol23 z6PA (My Page) on

I've already posted this on the Name that Plant forum without an identification. There was a suggestion that it was in the Plumbaginaceae family and it was something common.

Anyone have a positive ID for this?
Thanks in advance.
Carol

RE: Mystery plant from Santa Fe

My guess is Easter Daisy (assuming it's that small and bloomed within last month or so) Townsendia exscapa. I don't know much about Plumbaginaceae, but your photo seems to show a number of composite flower heads characteristic of Asteraceae. This is a very cute plant that was in flower around Easter this year here in Santa Fe. It is quite common, at least here in the pinyon-juniper woodland.

Hope this is helpful,
Chris

Thank you. I received an e-mail reply with the same identification yesterday so I feel certain this is it!
I also thought asteraceae with the fluffy seed heads.
