Caesalpinia gopher resistant?

roseseek

I have eight seedling Caesalpinia with the perfect hillside on which to grow them. I found they are deer resistant, and I know the green parts, seed and seed pods are toxic. Might anyone know if they are gopher resistant? A squirrel chewed one off, but left the gnawed parts (unfortunately, no carcass to prove it was toxic to the danged squirrel!)

The drainage is very fast, exposure full western and southern sun, one mountain range in from the ocean north of Los Angeles, VERY seldom winter temps below forty with good winter rain (normally). I would like to know if it's necessary for me to plant in gopher cages or if they SHOULD be safe uncaged, please? Any experiences would be welcomed. Thank you. Kim
