I'm trying to grow summer squash for the first time in Mesa, AZ. and the fruits get squishy after two or three inches of growth. Anyone have a solution?

What soil are they planted in? How much water do you give them? What type of squash are they?

It sounds more like a pollination problem, as the fruit will stop growing at about that size and drop off if the flower is not pollinated. Do you have bees in the garden actively working your squash plant? If not, you may need to hand-pollinate.
