Thanks, Lazygardens. I should have known to look up Texas Native Ferns for information. You reminded me what should have been obvious to anyone interested in Texas Native plants.

I successfully grew Japanese Painted Fern in Albuquerque under a cherry tree. My entire garden area was on drip irrigation. It got some morning sun, but was in dappled shade most of the day and full shade after 3PM or so (on the Eastern side of a cinder block wall).

I have grown wavy cloak fern, Chelanthes lanosa and another chelanthes. They might dry up in summer but they come back.
