Crepe Myrtle Questions

Hi, I am new to this site and so happy to find it !

We live in the Hi Desert in Ca, and I love spending time outside planting trees and flowers ! Its been a challenge to learn what will and will not survive but I am getting better at it.

I have a crepe myrtle bush in a 15 gallon container that I have had for years, and its in full bloom right now and so pretty.

My question is, would it do better if I were to plant it in the ground, and would this be the wrong time to do that ? If I planted it in the ground now, do you think it would loose it blooms ? We have a problem with bunnies eating some of my plants, but only certain ones, so for a test I have dug a deep hole and just set the container in it at ground level to see if the rabbits bother it too, before I plant it in the ground.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated !
