 o
what can I plant behind my pool?

Behind the entire length of my pool is a 15' high bare block wall with about two feet of planting room between the wall and the pool. I have tried ice plant, but as the weather here gets in the triple digits, it burnt to a crisp. I was thinking Italian Cypress trees, but there really isn't enough room to plant a tree. Our wall is on the north side which gets sun all day long. I'm afraid the bare wall and the reflection of the pool is going to kill anything I put there. Does anyone have any suggestions? It really needs something with height to break up the bare wall. I live in Mesa AZ. Thanks in advance!

If you want a low grower, how about lantana or maybe rose trained on a trellis or even pyracantha espellared (sp?)

Start in the early fall with cat's claw or other heat-tolerant vines. By next summer they may be established enough (and covering enough of the wall) to survive.

Or, how about painting a mural?

I agree with lazygardens. Key is Fall planting to get established before Spring/ Summer heat. Narrow trunked palms, such as Queen palm would work well too, but they will need supplemental palm food periodically (containing Mg, Mn) to avoid yellowing. I would wait it out until Fall....... not much will establish in mid Summer in Mesa.
