I want to seed this on to my existing lawn. Can I get it in local stores like Home Depot, Lowes, Ace, Walmart?

I've never seen it there. I doubt they carry it. That doesn't mean you don't have a local store that carries it. Here in albuquerque it is sold at some local nurseries. Question though, do you already have an existing buffalo grass lawn?

Everyone that I know that has it, has grown it from seed.

Turns out I would have to completely remove my previous lawn in order for the buffalo grass to establish itself. So the plan now is to overseed with heat and drought tolerant tall fesue and add as much organic material as possible to the soil.

yes, you can't overseed buffalo with an existing cool season grass lawn. They are too different in nature. overseeding it would've been a waste of time. Although I think removing your old lawn and restarting with buffalo in the spring still would be worth it if you are looking for a low water, drought tolerant lawn.

The lawn was not in bad shape. I just wanted to do the right thing ecologically. I still have to figure out what would be best for the yard, ie plants, flowers, shrubs.
